At a grand reception organized by the Ijaw community in his honor, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, reiterated his political influence, both at the state and federal levels. Wike highlighted his successes in Abuja, presenting them as proof of his capability to handle national politics. He indicated that the real test of political strategy is yet to come, suggesting that he and his supporters are prepared for a larger political battle in the near future.

A Display of Political Power

Wike, speaking with confidence, urged members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to stay alert and ready for action. He implied that the party would soon witness a more calculated approach to politics, promising that his leadership will guide them through the complexities of the political landscape. According to Wike, when the appropriate time comes, he will demonstrate the true meaning of political prowess, signaling that a strategic plan is in place for future political engagements.

In a live broadcast on Channels TV, Wike stated:
“I have gone to Abuja and repeated what I did in the state. So, I have left the state; I’ve gone to the federal level. Go and see the testimony of what’s happening in Abuja. We didn’t start politics, we have not started politics yet. When the time comes, we will play politics. Keep that your party; we will teach you politics.

Tell them to keep their party ready; we will teach them what is called politics. I want to say that I am with all of us; we are together. At the appropriate time, our leaders will call you, and I will tell you the next line of action."

Reactions to Wike's Bold Remarks

Wike’s confident tone has sparked mixed reactions among political observers and residents in Rivers State. While some view his statements as a bold assertion of his political strength, others see it as arrogance. Many question whether Wike is overplaying his hand, assuming that he alone can control the political fate of Rivers State. Some critics accuse him of relying on "federal might," drawing parallels to his involvement in the 2020 Edo State elections, where federal influence was suspected.

As the date for the Rivers State Local Government Area (LGA) elections approaches, tensions are rising. Some individuals, angered by what they perceive as Wike's boasting, have vowed to vote for candidates of their choice, regardless of his influence. The political landscape in Rivers State remains uncertain, and many are eager to see whether Wike’s self-assured statements will translate into actual political victories.

The Future of Rivers State Politics

Wike's remarks suggest that he is positioning himself as a major player in both state and national politics, potentially reshaping the future of Rivers State’s political landscape. However, as the local elections draw closer, only time will tell if his claims of political dominance will be realized or if his opponents will challenge his influence.

The endgame remains uncertain, but one thing is clear—Wike is ready to flex his political muscle, and his next moves will be closely watched by both allies and adversaries alike.
