Ahmad Isah Warns Tinubu Against 2027 Presidential Ambition
In light of the mounting challenges faced by President Bola Tinubu's administration since assuming office in 2023, Nigerian TV host Ahmad Isah, popularly known for his show "Brekete Family," has voiced a sharp warning to the president. He urged Tinubu to abandon any aspirations for re-election in 2027, stressing that the current political and economic conditions may leave him without the support of Nigerian voters.
Rising Discontent with Tinubu's Leadership
During a recent broadcast on his platform, Ahmad Isah highlighted the increasing frustration among Nigerians over the performance of the Tinubu administration. He argued that unless significant improvements are made, it is unlikely that the electorate will rally behind the president in future elections. "Bola Ahmed Tinubu, forget about 2027 if you don't perform well. You won’t get any votes," Ahmad stated emphatically.
A Call to Reject Politicians’ Incentives
A central theme of Ahmad’s message was the need for voters to resist being swayed by gifts or incentives from politicians, particularly during election campaigns. He warned that these gestures, which often include the distribution of food items or money, serve only the personal interests of the politicians and are not reflective of their commitment to governance. “You can give out soap, rice, or beans if you want, but it won’t change things,” Ahmad said, addressing Tinubu directly.
Raising the Standard for Political Accountability
Ahmad strongly criticized the pattern in which politicians engage with voters only during election periods, urging Nigerians to hold their leaders to higher standards. "Stop lowering your standards by accepting handouts from politicians who only remember you during campaigns," he cautioned. "You won’t die from hunger that hasn’t killed you yet, and even if you gather their gifts, how long will it last you?"
Voter Empowerment for Future Elections
In his concluding remarks, Ahmad called on Nigerians to be more discerning and reject the short-term benefits offered by politicians in exchange for long-term neglect. "Don’t make a mockery of yourself by gathering the little things they share. These politicians forget about you for four years, except during campaigns. And yet you continue to follow them," he warned, urging voters to prioritize accountability and leadership over fleeting incentives.
Growing Frustration in Nigeria's Political Climate
Ahmad’s outspoken remarks reflect a growing sense of discontent among Nigerians who are grappling with economic hardships and political instability. As President Tinubu's administration navigates these challenges, calls for greater accountability and a shift in leadership practices are becoming more pronounced, particularly with the 2027 elections looming on the horizon
