The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN, amid internal challenges within the party. The National Working Committee (NWC) took this action, emphasizing the need to address certain concerns raised against the two officers.

Internal Crises and Leadership Tensions

Since 2023, the PDP has faced ongoing internal crises, with prominent voices within the party calling for stronger adherence to its constitution. Ologunagba and Ajibade have been at the forefront, urging the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to ensure the party operates in strict compliance with its established procedures. Their calls for accountability and adherence to constitutional guidelines have contributed to increased tension within the party's leadership.

Committee Formed to Investigate Concerns

In a statement released early Friday by the PDP’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, it was announced that the NWC has set up a committee to investigate the concerns raised against Ologunagba and Ajibade. The committee will be chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, and will conduct its inquiry in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The statement read in part:
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arising from its 593rd Meeting on Thursday, October 10, 2024, has directed the National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, to step aside.”

Deputies to Assume Acting Roles

As a result of the NWC’s decision, deputies to both suspended officers have been appointed to assume their roles in an acting capacity, effective from Friday, October 11, 2024. The acting officers include Ibrahim Abdullahi Manga as the Acting National Publicity Secretary and Okechukwu Osuoha as the Acting National Legal Adviser. These appointments will remain in place pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation.

Call for Unity and Focus

The NWC urged all party leaders, stakeholders, members, and supporters to remain focused and united during this period, as the party works to resolve its internal challenges. The committee’s investigation is expected to be thorough and in line with the party’s commitment to transparency and constitutional integrity.

The PDP remains determined to steer its day-to-day affairs for the greater good of the party and its members, ensuring that it continues to uphold the values that define its operations.
