Resolution of PDP Internal Crisis: Oyinlola Declares Success
The reconciliation efforts led by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, aimed at resolving internal disputes within the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have yielded positive results. The Oyinlola-led Reconciliation Committee, established to mediate between the conflicting factions within the party, has successfully concluded its assignment, bringing an end to the prolonged internal strife.
Successful Mediation by Oyinlola-led Committee
Following a three-hour meeting on Tuesday with the various factions of the NWC, Oyinlola addressed the media, announcing the resolution of the internal conflicts. He expressed optimism about the future of the party, stating that the NWC can now proceed with its objectives without the hindrance of internal discord.
"We are pleased to announce that, by the grace of God, we have resolved the differences that have been causing challenges within the National Working Committee," Oyinlola stated. "We have come together as a united front, which is crucial for the progress of our party, the PDP."
Presentation of Findings and Recommendations
Oyinlola also revealed that the committee would submit its findings and recommendations to the PDP Governors’ Forum later that evening. This step is expected to formalize the resolutions and ensure party leadership across various levels aligns with the recommendations made by the committee.
Details of Resolution Remain Confidential
When asked about the specific issues that were resolved during the session, Oyinlola declined to provide details, citing the internal nature of the matters. "These were internal matters that had caused divisions within the NWC, but I cannot itemize them for you now," he explained. His focus remained on the broader success of the reconciliation process rather than delving into specifics.
Clarification on NEC Meeting Controversy
Oyinlola also addressed the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which had been advocated by a faction loyal to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed. He clarified that this issue was beyond the scope of his committee’s mandate. "The NEC meeting was not part of our discussion. My focus was on resolving the issues within the NWC, and I am pleased to say that my job is done," he noted.
Final Decision Pending Governors’ Forum Approval
An unnamed member of the NWC confirmed that the reconciliation process had concluded successfully. While the member refrained from disclosing specific details of the recommendations, they emphasized that the findings would be presented to the PDP Governors’ Forum for final approval. "The final decision will be made tonight at the PDP Governors’ Forum," the source confirmed.
With the internal conflicts resolved, the PDP can now focus on its broader mission as Nigeria's principal opposition party, united and prepared for the challenges ahead
