President Bola Tinubu, alongside several former Nigerian presidents including Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, is set to attend the burial ceremony of the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in Imo State. The event is expected to attract a wide array of national figures and leaders from various parts of Nigeria and beyond.

High-Profile Attendance Expected

Charles Amadi, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, made the announcement during a press briefing in Owerri. He revealed that the burial, scheduled for November 1, 2024, will be attended by prominent figures from across the country. This includes notable Northern leaders, representatives from Afenifere, Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and other influential national and international leaders.

Amadi also assured the public that security measures will be fully in place to ensure the safety of all guests and attendees throughout the week-long activities leading up to the burial.

In addition to confirming the high-profile attendance, Amadi provided details of the security and logistical arrangements for the event. "There will be adequate security for everyone," he emphasized, noting that traffic control will be a priority. "The movement of people and vehicles across Imo State will be smooth, ensuring that all attendees can participate in the events without any disruptions," he added.

Burial Schedule of Events

Amadi outlined a detailed one-week program of activities that will lead to the final interment of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. The schedule includes a series of services and processions, reflecting the significant cultural and religious traditions of the Igbo community and honoring the legacy of the late leader.

  • October 29, 2024: A service of songs will be held in honor of Chief Iwuanyanwu.

  • October 30, 2024: The late Chief's body will arrive at the Imo State Government House and proceed to Glass House, Ugwu Orji, before being taken to his residence in New Owerri.

  • November 1, 2024: A commendation service will take place at Catol, Owerri. The procession will then move through significant landmarks including Hardel Bus Stop Orji, Eke-Atta, and Atta Junction. His body will lie in state at his residence in Atta, followed by a funeral service at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, Atta, with interment in his compound.

  • November 2, 2024: Condolence and traditional visits will be conducted at his residence in Atta, as family and friends pay their respects.

  • November 3, 2024: The Iwuanyanwu family and close friends will hold an outing service at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, Atta, to conclude the series of memorial events.
