The Promoters of Good Governance, led by Comrade Edison Ibianga, have issued a strong statement denouncing the so-called "Concerned Rivers Stakeholders" for their attacks on prominent Ijaw activist, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo. In their statement, they called out the unnamed group as "faceless" and "lacking in integrity," asserting that their criticisms of Asari-Dokubo are without merit and politically motivated.

Support for Asari-Dokubo and Niger Delta Activism

The Promoters of Good Governance reaffirmed their full support for Asari-Dokubo, praising his unwavering stance as a spokesperson for the Ijaw people and his dedication to advancing the cause of Niger Delta freedom. According to Comrade Ibianga, Asari-Dokubo’s activism reflects a genuine commitment to the welfare of the Niger Delta and its residents, unlike the alleged self-serving motives of the so-called "Concerned Rivers Stakeholders." Ibianga noted that the Ijaw activist's voice represents the true concerns of his community and criticized those attempting to silence him.

Calls for Wike to Be Held Accountable

Ibianga went on to call upon President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address what he described as "unrest" caused by former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He suggested that Wike’s involvement in the controversy was stirring unnecessary division within Rivers State. The Promoters of Good Governance argued that Wike should focus on his duties in Abuja rather than fostering tensions in his home state.

Rebuke of "Concerned Rivers Stakeholders"

In their statement, Ibianga lambasted the "Concerned Rivers Stakeholders" as "hungry, faceless, and useless individuals" who lack credibility and integrity. He accused them of hiding behind anonymity to criticize Asari-Dokubo without presenting any constructive arguments or solutions for the Rivers State community. "They should go and hide their heads in shame," Ibianga remarked, adding that these stakeholders should respect the contributions of Asari-Dokubo to the Niger Delta cause and focus on their own affairs.

Rivers Restoration Movement's Response to Asari-Dokubo

In response to Asari-Dokubo's recent statements, the Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM), led by Director-General Johnson Georgewill, also issued a public condemnation. Georgewill disputed Asari-Dokubo's assertions that the Ijaw would align with the North in the 2027 presidential elections, calling it "irrelevant and misleading." According to Georgewill, Asari-Dokubo has no authority to speak on behalf of the Ijaw people and pointed out that many Ijaw leaders supported President Tinubu and Governor Siminialayi Fubara in the 2023 elections.

Reaffirming Support for Wike and Unity in Rivers State

RRM’s statement highlighted the contributions of Wike to the successes of Tinubu and Fubara in Rivers State, emphasizing the unity among Ijaw leaders who back Wike's leadership. They also criticized Asari-Dokubo's claims of spending millions in support of Tinubu, calling them baseless. RRM called for political unity among Rivers leaders to ensure fair representation for the Ijaw people and underscored the community's historic support for leaders from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

The statements from the Promoters of Good Governance and RRM indicate a growing divide in Rivers State politics, underscoring tensions between grassroots activists and political establishments
