MEANING IF JUSTICE:

Justice refers to the fair and impartial treatment of individuals within the legal and social system. It involves upholding laws, rules, and moral principles to ensure that individuals are protected and their rights are respected.

MEANING OF EQUITY;

Sometimes justice and equity are are used interchangeably, but they do not mean the same. Equity, on the other hand, refers to the idea of fairness and impartiality in situations where the strict application of laws and rules may result in an unjust outcome. Equity seeks to ensure that outcomes are just and fair, even if they are not strictly in accordance with the law.

WHY APPLY JUSTIC AND EQUITY TO SOCIETY:

Both justice and equity are essential for a fair and functional society and are complementary concepts that strive towards ensuring fairness and impartiality in decision making and treatment of individuals.

Justice and equity play a crucial role in promoting social stability and ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals. They help to prevent discrimination and promote fairness in decision making, such as in the administration of justice, allocation of resources, and distribution of benefits.

Justice is often associated with the legal system and ensuring that laws are applied consistently and impartially to all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances. This can involve the enforcement of laws, punishment for criminal offenses, and protection of individual rights.

Equity, on the other hand, seeks to address systemic inequalities and ensure that justice is not just done, but is also seen to be done. This can involve the use of discretion and flexibility in the application of laws and policies to account for the unique circumstances of different individuals and groups.

BENEFICIAL EFFECT OF APPLYING JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS IN A SOCIETY;

Justice and fairness are abstract concepts that cannot be purchased. The benefits of a society that values and upholds these principles include:

EQUALLY UNDER THE LAW:

When justice is applied fairly, everyone is treated equally regardless of their background, race, or social status, society will achieve greatness, peace and security. But when injustice prevails in a society there will be no peace and security.

DETERRENT TO CRIME:

A fair and just legal system can serve as a deterrent to criminal behavior.

PROTECTION OF RIGHTS:

A just and fair legal system protects the individual rights and freedoms of citizens.

INCREASE TRUST IN GOVERNMENT:

If  people perceive the legal system is fair and just, they are more likely to trust the government and institutions.

SOCIAL STABILITY:

A just and fair society promotes stability and reduces the likelihood of conflict.

It is important to note that these benefits are realized when the justice and fairness are actually practiced, not just talked about or paid for.

IMPROVED BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT:

A just and fair legal system can create a more favorable business environment and attract investment.

INCREASES CONFIDENCE IN THE RUKE OF LAW:

When the legal system is fair and just, individuals have greater confidence in the rule of law and are more likely to resolve disputes peacefully.

REDUCES CORRUPTION:

A just and fair legal system can help reduce corruption by holding those in power accountable.

INCREASES ACCOUNTABILITY:

When individuals and institutions are held accountable for their actions, there is a greater sense of responsibility and accountability in society.

BETTER RELATIONSHIPS:

When individuals trust that they will be treated fairly, they are more likely to build positive relationships with others and work together towards a common goal.

Both justice and equity are essential components of a fair and just society and play a key role in promoting social cohesion and addressing systemic inequalities.
