Pensioners Threaten Unusual Protest Method to Highlight Welfare Struggles

In a bold move to draw attention to the longstanding challenges faced by pensioners, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has issued a stern warning, indicating their readiness to resort to a visually arresting form of protest – public nudity – should substantial improvements to pensioner welfare fail to materialize promptly.

During a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, the National President of the union, Godwin Abumusi, underscored the gravity of the situation faced by pensioners across the country and stressed the urgent need for decisive action.

"I am prepared to lead Nigerian pensioners in a demonstration of nudity," Abumusi affirmed. "By this, I mean that in our protest, we will bare ourselves on the streets, ensuring global visibility to the plight of pensioners in Nigeria. Should authorities opt to arrest us for this act, they will be compelled to confront the question: why did pensioners feel compelled to resort to such extreme measures?"

The issue of delayed pension payments has long plagued Nigeria, with protests from pensioners being a recurrent occurrence.

"In Nigeria, the plight of the less privileged is often overlooked by governments, who seem to prioritize their own interests above all else. How else can one explain the pitiful sum of N450 being received by pensioners in Enugu?" Abumusi lamented, drawing attention to the glaring inadequacy of pension disbursements in meeting retirees' basic needs.
