The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended an invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a bid to address the escalating internal crisis within the party.

Senator Abdul Ningi, a member of the PDP BOT, expressed concern over Wike's continued membership in the PDP while allegedly supporting and influencing other parties against the PDP, the main opposition party. Ningi, who represents Bauchi South, attributed the internal discord to unresolved issues stemming from the last general election, suggesting that some party members, dissatisfied with the election's outcomes, are now intent on undermining the party.

Speaking on Arise TV, Ningi emphasized the destructive mindset of certain key figures within the PDP. “The mindset of some key actors is that this party must not survive. This party does not warrant our sympathy because, at a time in the immediate past, some people did not get what they wanted,” he stated. Ningi further noted that the crisis would not exist if these individuals were not still members of the PDP. He highlighted the contradiction of being a PDP member while simultaneously supporting other parties against it.

The decision to reach out to Wike followed the BOT's meeting with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, during which it was concluded that Wike is central to the challenges facing the state. Despite this, Ningi expressed satisfaction that Wike has committed to remaining in the party and working from within, reaffirming the BOT's desire for a united PDP.

“We have written a letter to him, the BOT has written a letter to him, requesting a meeting. During our visit to Port Harcourt, we also sought to understand the minimum concessions the governor could offer to ensure the party's survival in Rivers State. Moving forward, our next step is to engage the FCT minister in discussions,” Ningi concluded
