Dino Melaye Raises Alarm: 'PDP NWC Infiltrated by APC Members, Leading to Edo Election Loss'

Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has raised serious allegations regarding the infiltration of the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Melaye's claims come in the wake of the PDP's defeat in the recent Edo State governorship election, signaling a concerning trend within the party.

Allegations of APC Infiltration

Melaye has accused the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagun, of allowing the APC to undermine the party from within. He voiced these concerns after the PDP lost the Edo State governorship election to the APC, questioning the integrity and loyalty of the party's current leadership.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Melaye expressed his dismay at the direction of the PDP, stating, "With the destroyer called Damagun at the helm, the PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass." This metaphor underscores his belief that the party is on a path to self-destruction under Damagun’s stewardship.

Implications of the Election Loss

The recent Edo State election saw PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo defeated by APC’s Monday Okpebholo. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ighodalo garnered 247,274 votes, while Okpebholo emerged victorious with 291,667 votes. This outcome has further fueled Melaye's assertions about the infiltration of the NWC, as he hinted that the presence of APC loyalists within the party may exceed that of genuine PDP members.

Historical Context and Future Concerns

Melaye's criticism of Damagun extends beyond the recent election. He has previously accused the acting chairman of compromising the PDP’s foundational principles and legacy. In his remarks, he invoked the names of the party's founding fathers—such as Alex Ekwueme, Solomon Lar, and Tony Anenih—suggesting that they would be disheartened by the current state of the PDP under Damagun's leadership.

As the party grapples with its identity and direction, Melaye's assertions highlight significant concerns about internal divisions and the potential erosion of the PDP's foundational values. With mounting pressure, the future of the PDP remains uncertain as it confronts challenges both from within and outside its ranks
