Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his support for Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, distancing himself from former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

Declaration of Support for Asue Ighodalo

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Wednesday, Governor Makinde expressed his full endorsement of Ighodalo ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled for Saturday. Makinde called on all members of the PDP to unite and rally behind Ighodalo, emphasizing that he represents the best choice for the future of Edo State.

In his remarks, Makinde sought to clarify his absence from recent campaign events, firmly stating, “Let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100% with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo.”

Commitment to PDP Leadership

In addition to endorsing Ighodalo, Governor Makinde also extended his support to the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum. Amidst concerns over the leadership of the party, Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to Damagum and the National Working Committee (NWC), urging party members to come together in the interest of the party’s success.

Call for Unity Among PDP Members

Governor Makinde stressed the importance of internal unity within the party, acknowledging the challenges but urging all PDP members to focus on the upcoming election. “Whatever decision you take, we will support you to reposition our party. Even if we have issues with ourselves, we have an important election on Saturday, so we should all rally around and deliver our candidate,” he said.

Makinde’s endorsement highlights his dedication to the PDP’s cause in Edo State, urging collective efforts to ensure the party’s success in the forthcoming election.
