Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has expressed firm confidence in his party’s chances of securing victory in the 2027 presidential election. According to the former Governor of Kano State, the NNPP is well-positioned to take control of the presidency, as well as win governorship and legislative positions across the country.

Kwankwaso made these remarks during the inauguration of the NNPP Secretariat in Katsina on Saturday, September 7, 2024. His visit to the state was part of a condolence trip to the family of the late Hajiya Dada Yar’Adua, matriarch of the Yar’Adua family.

Preparations for 2027 Elections

In his address, Kwankwaso emphasized that his party is prepared for success in the upcoming elections. "We are laying down solid plans and strategies for the 2027 general elections," Kwankwaso stated, citing the party’s commitment to strengthening its structure nationwide. He assured supporters that NNPP's growing influence and organizational efforts will pave the way for an electoral breakthrough.

Kwankwaso, who was NNPP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, said that his experience and the party’s increasing grassroots support will be crucial factors in achieving their goals in the next electoral cycle. He conveyed optimism that the NNPP would emerge as a dominant political force capable of transforming Nigeria's political landscape.

Criticism of the PDP

Kwankwaso also took the opportunity to comment on the current state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a political party he once belonged to. He expressed disappointment in what he described as the party's decline and deviation from its original values and objectives. Kwankwaso went as far as declaring the PDP as politically defunct.

"I wish to remind you that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead," Kwankwaso remarked, attributing the collapse of the PDP to internal divisions and leadership failures. He recounted how his departure from the party was motivated by a growing sense of disillusionment as the PDP drifted away from its foundational principles.

Kwankwaso’s comments add to the mounting criticism that the PDP has faced in recent years, especially as it continues to grapple with internal crises following its loss in the 2023 general elections. He also hinted that the NNPP now stands as a viable alternative for Nigerians who desire effective leadership and positive change.

A Call to Action for Women and Youth

Kwankwaso’s address also included a direct appeal to Nigerian women and youth, groups he believes are critical to NNPP’s success in 2027. He urged them to resist the temptation of material inducements that often surface during election periods and instead focus on making informed decisions that would benefit the country in the long term.

The NNPP leader stressed the importance of active political participation by these demographic groups, highlighting their role in shaping Nigeria’s future. "Our women and youth must refuse to be influenced by short-term gains," he said. Kwankwaso argued that only by rejecting such inducements would Nigerians ensure that the country moves towards genuine development.

Party’s Commitment to Growth

Kwankwaso also lauded the party’s stakeholders in Katsina for their efforts in renovating the NNPP Secretariat in the state. He praised the new facility as symbolic of the NNPP’s readiness to make significant strides toward electoral success. The renovated secretariat, according to Kwankwaso, reflects the party’s determination to build a solid organizational foundation at both the state and national levels.

The event, which was attended by prominent NNPP leaders, also served as an opportunity for Kwankwaso to strengthen ties with party supporters in the northern region. He reassured them that the party’s leadership was working tirelessly to ensure that the NNPP would emerge victorious in 2027.

Looking Ahead

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, Kwankwaso’s ambitions for 2027 place the NNPP in a key position as a rising political force. While the PDP struggles with internal challenges and the ruling party faces scrutiny over governance issues, Kwankwaso’s NNPP is positioning itself as an alternative that promises a fresh approach to leadership.

The upcoming election season will no doubt be competitive, but Kwankwaso’s confidence in his party’s preparations and strategies indicates that the NNPP is ready to make its mark on the national stage.
