The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a stark warning regarding the worsening economic situation in Nigeria under the administration of President Bola Tinubu. In a statement through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele cautioned that if urgent steps are not taken, the nation is poised to face unprecedented hardship, with the prices of essential food items set to skyrocket.

Rising Food Prices: A Grim Forecast

Primate Ayodele specifically pointed out that without immediate government intervention, the cost of staple food items will soar, exacerbating the already dire economic situation for millions of Nigerians. He projected that a bag of rice could soon be priced at ₦120,000, with a bag of beans reaching ₦200,000. Additionally, he warned that a crate of eggs could cost more than ₦7,000, signaling a sharp increase in the prices of other essential commodities as well.

He stated, “If the government does not address the current economic crisis, the situation will worsen. The country is facing a real threat of chaos due to the rising cost of living."

Call for Government Action

Primate Ayodele urged the government to prioritize resolving the economic challenges over less critical matters, emphasizing the need for decisive and strategic action. According to him, the government must wake up from its slumber and focus on pressing national issues, or face the consequences of neglecting the country's economic well-being.

“If the necessary steps are not taken soon, I foresee further hardship. A loaf of bread could cost ₦5,000, bottled water may be sold for ₦400, biscuits at ₦500 each, and even groundnuts could cost as much as ₦200. Small tubers of yam might reach ₦7,000," he added.

Economic Troubles Beyond the Budget

In addition to his concerns about food prices, Primate Ayodele expressed skepticism about the government's ability to manage the national budget effectively in the face of these economic challenges. He predicted that the current budget would prove insufficient and that the government might be forced to take on even more debt to keep the economy afloat.

“I foresee the government borrowing more money to augment the budget, but even that will not be enough. The situation may deteriorate to the point where the traditional annual budget becomes unsustainable. Instead, we might see quarterly or biannual budgets due to the severity of the economic crisis,” he warned.

A Critical Juncture for Nigeria’s Economy

Primate Ayodele’s warning comes at a critical time for Nigeria, as the nation grapples with inflation, rising fuel prices, and a struggling currency. His message is a call for immediate and decisive action from the government to prevent the looming crisis from spiraling out of control.

Without such intervention, the prophet believes Nigeria could face not only economic hardship but also damage to its international standing, further complicating efforts to recover from the economic downturn.

In conclusion, the prophet’s message underscores the urgent need for the Tinubu administration to refocus its efforts on alleviating the economic burdens on its citizens and finding sustainable solutions to the nation’s fiscal challenges. Failure to do so, according to Primate Ayodele, will lead to greater instability and hardship for the country
