Amid Internal Party Struggles, PDP Leadership Visits Bauchi

In the midst of escalating internal conflicts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party's Board of Trustees (BoT) visited Bauchi State on Wednesday. The delegation, led by BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Dr. Adolphus Wabara, was hosted by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi.

The visit comes at a time when the party is grappling with internal divisions, particularly in Rivers State, where a supremacy battle between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara continues to unfold.

Focus on Party Stability and Unity

Governor Bala Mohammed emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to address the current challenges facing the PDP and to acknowledge the efforts he has made in fostering unity and stability within the party.

“During our discussions, Dr. Wabara expressed deep concerns about the state of the party, particularly regarding the internal issues within the National Working Committee (NWC) and the ongoing crisis in Rivers State,” Governor Mohammed said in an official statement.

The governor noted that Dr. Wabara commended Bauchi State for its developmental achievements and recognized his leadership role in uniting the PDP. As Chairman of the PDP Governors' Forum, Mohammed has played a pivotal role in reconciling party members and ensuring sustainable growth within the party.

Commitment to Party Unity

In response to the BoT's concerns, Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP's unity and success. He thanked both the BoT and the NWC for their efforts in resolving the party’s internal struggles, emphasizing his ongoing dedication to the objectives of the PDP Governors' Forum.

"I assured the BoT of my continued commitment to strengthening the PDP and to addressing the challenges we face as a party. I am grateful for the BoT’s support and stand firmly with our leadership as we work together to resolve internal disputes and promote unity,” Governor Mohammed stated.

The meeting concluded with a closed-door session, during which party leaders reaffirmed their collective commitment to overcoming internal challenges and advancing the PDP’s goals for a more united front.

Ongoing Crisis in Rivers State

The PDP has been embroiled in a power struggle in Rivers State, where a battle for supremacy between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara has intensified. The PDP Governors' Forum recently called for the cancellation of ward and local government congresses in the state, which shifted control of the party’s structure to Wike rather than the incumbent governor, Fubara.

This move has further deepened the crisis, with Wike warning the PDP Governors' Forum to refrain from interfering in Rivers State’s internal party matters, threatening to retaliate if the forum continues to involve itself.

As the PDP leadership works to address these challenges, the party’s efforts to promote unity and resolve internal disputes will be crucial to its future stability
