Today, as we celebrate World Tourism Day, I want to emphasize the crucial role peace plays in destination management and promotions. As the Chairman of BRACED Tourism Promotion & Development Initiative Board, I've seen firsthand how tourism can foster economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development in our region.

In the BRACED region, comprising Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, and Delta states, we recognize that peace is the foundation upon which successful tourism is built. Our initiative aims to showcase the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of our region, while promoting peace and understanding among our communities.

Effective destination management requires a peaceful and secure environment. This enables tourists to feel safe and enjoy their experiences, which in turn, promotes positive word-of-mouth and encourages repeat visits. By prioritizing peace, we can create a thriving tourism industry that benefits our local economies and enhances our regional identity.

To achieve this vision, we are committed to collaborating with stakeholders across the region, including state governments, tourism operators, and community leaders. Together, we can develop sustainable tourism practices, promote cultural exchange, and foster peace and understanding.

On this World Tourism Day 2024, with the theme: "Tourism and Peace," I urge all stakeholders to join us in promoting peace and tourism development in the BRACED region. Let us work together to create a vibrant and inclusive tourism industry that benefits our communities and showcases the beauty and diversity of our region.

Thank you.

Dr. Piriye Kiyaramo
Chairman, BRACED Tourism Promotion & Development Initiative Board (BTPDI).
