Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has voiced serious concerns regarding the political instability in the state, which he claims is overshadowing the developmental strides of his administration. Speaking in a recent interview with Channels Television, Governor Fubara lamented that persistent crises are undermining the visibility of his achievements and affecting the overall perception of governance in Rivers State.

Developmental Efforts Overshadowed by Crisis

Governor Fubara expressed frustration that the constant turmoil has diverted attention away from the substantial progress being made in various sectors across the state. According to him, while his administration is undertaking significant projects, these efforts are going unnoticed due to the persistent focus on political unrest. He emphasized that it is only through deliberate communication of his initiatives that the public becomes aware of his government's achievements.

“What is important to me is letting Rivers State be normal,” Governor Fubara stated. “With all the problems we’re having, the wonderful jobs I’m doing in this state are not being seen because of the crisis. It’s only when I come out and tell people, ‘I’m doing this or that,’ that they realize what is going on in the state. Because the only thing everyone is hearing is one crisis or another.”

Multiple Sources of Unrest

Governor Fubara highlighted that the challenges facing his administration are not restricted to a single faction. Instead, he noted that unrest stems from a variety of sources, including political factions and even certain security agencies. This constant state of agitation, he explained, is creating significant disruptions to the smooth functioning of the government and the execution of developmental projects.

“If it's not from one set of members, then it’s from another group of people,” the Governor noted. “If it's not from this group, it’s from one area or one security agency.”

Imminent Arrests Amid Political Tensions

During the interview, Governor Fubara revealed that he had received information suggesting that certain individuals close to him have been targeted for arrest due to their proximity to his administration. He expressed concern over this development, implying that these actions may be politically motivated and aimed at further destabilizing his government.

“You know, let me tell you, there is a report I just got now that, with what is happening, some persons have already been penciled in for arrest because they are close to me,” Fubara said. “I might not be surprised by tomorrow when you hear their names have been declared wanted.”

Conclusion

Governor Fubara's comments reflect the growing tension in Rivers State, where political conflicts and unrest threaten to overshadow the administration's achievements. As the state grapples with these challenges, the Governor has called for normalcy to allow his government’s work to be properly recognized and appreciated. His concerns about impending arrests further highlight the complex and fraught political environment in the state.
