NDDF Issues Ultimatum to Wike: “Enough is Enough”
The Niger Delta Development Force (NDDF), a militant group active in the Niger Delta region, has issued a strong warning to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, over alleged interference in the governance of Rivers State. The NDDF claims Wike is undermining the authority of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and has vowed to take significant action if these interferences continue.
Threat to Oil Installations if Interference Persists
According to a report by Punch, NDDF spokesman Justin Alabraba conveyed that the group is prepared to disrupt key oil installations throughout the Niger Delta if Wike persists in what they describe as “meddling” in the state’s affairs. The NDDF’s primary concern is a reported legal move by Wike that could block funding for Rivers’ local governments—a measure the group argues would have a detrimental impact on governance and operations within the state.
"We will shut down major oil installations in the Niger Delta," Alabraba warned. “Wike must leave Governor Fubara alone, or we will respond by targeting key oil facilities.” The NDDF views any attempt to financially restrict Rivers State’s local governments as an attempt to destabilize the region and asserts that they are prepared to take matters into their own hands if necessary.
Allegations of Federal Influence and Intimidation
The NDDF’s statement accuses Wike of leveraging federal connections to disrupt the administration of Governor Fubara, who succeeded Wike as governor of Rivers State. They allege that Wike, with the support of a sympathetic judge, is pushing for a legal decision that could block financial allocations to local governments within the state, a move NDDF considers a direct attempt to destabilize the administration.
Rivers State, and by extension the entire Niger Delta, will no longer tolerate what it views as “harassment” from Wike, Alabraba asserted. The NDDF emphasized that these actions infringe on the autonomy of the state’s leadership and the broader well-being of the Niger Delta region.
A Warning to President Tinubu: Act or Face Consequences
In a bold message directed toward President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Alabraba warned that inaction from the federal government would result in shared consequences. “If Tinubu ignores this, we’ll face the consequences together,” he stated, emphasizing that the NDDF’s threats are genuine and will be carried out if their warnings go unheeded.
NDDF’s Determination to Defend the Niger Delta
The NDDF concluded their statement with a firm assertion of their resolve: “Enough is enough. We will no longer be taken for granted.” The group made it clear that their primary aim is to safeguard the interests of Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta, and that any actions perceived as undermining the region’s stability would not go unanswered.
The NDDF’s ultimatum highlights the ongoing tensions within the Niger Delta and the serious implications that perceived political interference could have on both local governance and the nation’s critical oil industry
