80,000 Minimum Wage:
Labour Lauds Gov. Douye, Promises to Redouble Effort
 
The Organized Labour in Bayelsa State comprising the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), The Trade Union Congress (TUC) and The Joint State Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) has thanked the Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri for promptly approving the new minimum wage.

In a joint statement issued in Yenagoa, NLC Chairman, Comrade Barnabas Simon, his TUC Counterpart, Comrade Julius Laye and the JNC Chairperson, Comrade Andabai Embeleakpo noted that the Governor was the first to set-up the Minimum Wage Committee during the 2024 May Day Programme.

The trio recalled that the moment the Salary, Wage and Income Commission released template, the committee swung into action and came into an agreement which His Excellency graciously approved without hesitation.

The labour movement praised the governor for its love for the workers and the pensioners alike.

They also lauded the governor for agreeing to pay the Wage Award for October 2024, increase the take home of pensioners and approve additional Seven Billion Naira for payment of gratuities to retirees.

The Labour Leaders appreciated the Governor for the gestures and promised that the governor’s kind gesture will be reciprocated by workers who are committed to redouble the efforts to ensure that the ASSURED agenda of the government is realized.
