Wabara Responds to Wike’s Criticism
Senator Adolphus Wabara, former Senate President and current Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, has responded to recent verbal attacks from Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike, in a live television interview, had questioned Wabara’s competence for his role and referenced past corruption allegations against him.
Disappointment with Wike’s Remarks
Wabara, as reported by Daily Post, expressed deep disappointment over Wike’s statements, condemning them as reckless and inappropriate. He emphasized that as a former high-ranking government official, he would not lower himself to engage in such public confrontations. According to him, Wike’s approach lacked decorum and failed to uphold the dignity expected of public officeholders.
Denial of Corruption Allegations
Addressing the corruption allegations, Wabara firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that he has no case to answer. He urged that public discourse should be rooted in facts and mutual respect, rather than baseless accusations and personal attacks. He further cautioned Wike to exercise restraint in his language, especially when addressing elders and political leaders.
Call for Dignity in Public Office
Wabara underscored the importance of maintaining integrity and decorum in public service, warning that reckless statements could damage not only individuals but also the institutions they represent. His response highlights internal tensions within the PDP and reflects broader disagreements within Nigerian politics. He positioned himself as an advocate for civility and responsible leadership, contrasting Wike’s confrontational approach.
Emphasis on Responsible Leadership
Reaffirming his commitment to personal integrity, Wabara urged public figures to recognize the weight of their words and act in ways that enhance national unity and respect for democratic institutions. He stressed that leadership comes with the responsibility to foster constructive dialogue rather than engage in divisive rhetoric.
“As a former number three citizen of Nigeria, I will not stoop to Wike’s level. It is disgraceful for someone in his position to speak without decorum,” Wabara stated
