​SOKOTO, NIGERIA — Tragedy struck the Dabagin Yari community in the Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday night, as unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault resulting in multiple fatalities and a mass abduction of residents.

​According to reports, the attackers invaded the community under the cover of darkness, opening fire on inhabitants and causing widespread panic. While official casualty figures have not yet been released by state authorities, local sources indicate that several people were killed in the onslaught, while many others sustained varying degrees of injury.

​"Last night, terrorists invaded the Dabagin Yari community... several residents were killed, many others sustained injuries, and a high number of people including women and children were abducted," Bakatsine reported.

Bakatsine expressed profound condemnation of the group’s attempts to frame such violence within a religious context.
