Terrorist Incursion in Sokoto: Multiple Casualties and Abductions Reported in Wurno LGA

SOKOTO, NIGERIA — Tragedy struck the Dabagin Yari community in the Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday night, as unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault resulting in multiple fatalities and a mass abduction of residents.

According to reports, the attackers invaded the community under the cover of darkness, opening fire on inhabitants and causing widespread panic. While official casualty figures have not yet been released by state authorities, local sources indicate that several people were killed in the onslaught, while many others sustained varying degrees of injury.

Escalation of Insecurity

The assailants reportedly abducted a significant number of villagers, including women and children, marking a devastating blow to the local population. Security analyst Bakatsine, who monitored the situation, disclosed the details of the incursion via a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning.

"Last night, terrorists invaded the Dabagin Yari community... several residents were killed, many others sustained injuries, and a high number of people including women and children were abducted," Bakatsine reported.

Ethical and Religious Outcry

Beyond the immediate tactical details, the attack has sparked a renewed debate regarding the ideology of the perpetrators. Bakatsine expressed profound condemnation of the group’s attempts to frame such violence within a religious context. He argued that the targeted killing of civilians and the kidnapping of vulnerable groups directly contradict the core tenets of Islam, which strictly forbid the murder of innocents and the spreading of terror.

The Dabagin Yari community remains in a state of mourning and high tension as families await news of their missing relatives.

Response from Authorities

As of the time of this report, the Sokoto State Police Command and relevant military units have not issued an official statement regarding the incident or the ongoing efforts to rescue the victims.
