PANDEF Mourns as Former Delta Deputy Governor, Benjamin Elue, Passes at 85
By Dave Ikiedei AseiMarch 3, 2026
ASABA – The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed profound grief following the transition of the former Deputy Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Benjamin Elue.
In a formal condolence letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the National Chairman of PANDEF, Ambassador (Dr.) Godknows Boladei Igali, described Elue’s passing as the loss of an "illustrious and resourceful citizen" whose impact resonated across the South-South geopolitical zone.
A Legacy of Stability and Integrity
Chief Elue, who served as Deputy Governor under the administration of Chief James Ibori, was 85 at the time of his passing. Despite his advanced age, PANDEF noted that his exit remains an "irreplaceable loss" for the Niger Delta region.
In the statement dated March 2, 2026, Ambassador Igali highlighted Elue’s role in fostering political harmony:
"While he served as Deputy Governor... he was a great bedrock for political stability and dependable support for socio-economic development. His humility and maturity which he brought into governance became an exemplar for all of the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large."
"A Life of Virtue"
The forum further lauded the late statesman for his private and public conduct, citing his "integrity, fear of God, hard work, and diligence" as the hallmarks of his 85-year earthly sojourn.
Drawing strength from the Christian faith, the PANDEF Chairman referenced 2 Corinthians 5:8—"to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"—as a source of comfort for the bereaved family and the people of Delta State.
Condolences to Aniocha North
PANDEF extended its deepest sympathies to the immediate family of the departed leader and the people of Aniocha North Local Government Area.
The forum’s leadership, including the Board of Trustees and the National Executive Council, joined the rest of the nation in praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of the elder statesman.
