The leadership of Otuan Federated Communities in Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State, has commended the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, for constructing the Nana-Okoto internal road, while calling for the commencement of the project’s second phase.

The commendation followed an inspection tour of the 3-kilometre road project awarded to OFLOKEME ENTERPRISE.

The first phase, covering 700 metres, has been completed, the  contract was among several development projects approved after an NDDC Needs Assessment visit led by former Director of Procurement, Dr. Doode Week, last year.

Speaking to journalists during the inspection, the Amananaowei of Otuan Federated Communities, His Highness Christopher Nana-Okoto, (Akama the sixth), lauded the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for awarding the project.

He noted that the community had suffered for years due to poor internal road networks, which made movement difficult, especially during the rainy and flood seasons.

The monarch appealed to the NDDC to expedite action in commencing the second phase to further alleviate residents’ hardship.

Also speaking, CDC Chairman, Mr. Moses Wilson, and Youth President, Comrade Daniel Lucky, expressed delight over the road, saying it would ease movement within the community.

They added that, coupled with the bridge provided by the Governor Douye Diri led ASSURED Prosperity administration, water transportation would no longer be the sole means of access to Otuan.

On their part, members of the Chiefs Council,  Chief Pereware Maclean, and Woman Leader, Mrs. Patrice Sylvanus, described the project as remarkable and thanked Dr. Ogbuku and Dr. Week for their roles in facilitating it.

They said the road would boost agriculture, economic activities, and overall quality of life for residents.
