NAWJN South-South Zonal Worshop in Yenagoa: Gov. Diri welcomes women judges
… assures on gender equality
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, today graced the opening session of the South-South Zonal Workshop of the National Association of Women Judges-Nigeria (NAWJN) holding in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Governor Diri who attended the event alongside his wife, Honourable Justice (Mrs.) Patience Ama Diri, commended the industry and dedication of the women judges across the country and said no one should limit the aspirations of women in their professional career pursuits.
According to Gov. Diri, the government of Prosperity which he leads has continued to give opportunities for women to excel and that it was deliberate to consider women as Vice-Chairmen in the Local Government Councils.
“Here in Bayelsa, we strive to achieve gender equality. Even in the Judiciary, we have had women as Chief Judge at different times including the current occupant. In the LGA, we even have a woman already as LG chairman in one of the Local Government Councils.
I welcome you to Bayelsa State, the Glory of all lands and a very peaceful state. I am happy you have come and see for yourself that you can safely and peacefully hold your conference”, Gov. Diri stated.
The President of NAWJN and Justice of the Supreme Court, Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is leading other women judges at the Conference.
