Former Governor Sule Lamido Calls for Unity in the PDP

Former Governor Sule Lamido recently addressed internal tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and commented on the influence of former Governor Nyesom Wike, whose actions have stirred controversy within the party.

Wike's Role in PDP's History Dismissed

In a recent interview shared by Daily Trust, Lamido minimized Wike’s influence, suggesting that his role is minor in the broader context of PDP’s history. Lamido criticized Wike’s actions, describing them as imitative of "betrayal and treachery" seen in the past and insisting they hold little impact on the PDP’s larger vision.

“Disregard Wike. He is a minor figure in the history of the PDP. What was his role in 1999?” Lamido stated. He argued that Wike’s influence is inconsequential in the context of PDP’s long-term objectives and foundational ideals.

Encouragement for Former PDP Members to Rejoin

Lamido urged former PDP members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reconsider their decision and return to the party. He noted that these members hold valuable insights into the PDP’s foundations and could be pivotal in addressing Nigeria’s current challenges. According to Lamido, their return would bolster the party's efforts in becoming a more unified force in Nigerian politics.

Emphasis on Unity for a Stronger Opposition

Lamido stressed the importance of solidarity within the PDP as a means to enhance its influence. He believes that a united PDP can present a compelling alternative to the ruling APC, emphasizing the necessity of commitment to the party's values and goals. “My focus is on PDP leaders who grasp the party’s history and purpose. If they return, we can unify the PDP and present a viable alternative to the APC,” he said.

Vision for PDP’s Future

Lamido’s comments reflect a call to fortify the PDP from within by rallying experienced members around the party’s foundational ideals. By setting aside internal differences and focusing on collective goals, he believes the PDP can emerge as a more powerful and credible opposition force
