Police Inspector Killed, Chinese Nationals and Nigerian Kidnapped in Cross River State

In a tragic incident on Thursday evening, an Inspector of Police was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen at a quarry site in Cross River State. The assailants, who appeared to be dressed in military camouflage, also abducted two Chinese nationals and one Nigerian during the attack.

Attack at Quarry Site Leaves Police Inspector Dead

The slain officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was killed at the Marksino Quarry Camp located in Akamkpa Local Government Area. The gunmen reportedly seized the officer's AK-47 rifle, bearing Breech No. BE-35-2982, before fleeing the scene.

Police Confirm Incident, AIG Orders Manhunt

In an official statement, SP Nelson Okpabi, the Public Relations Officer for Zone 6 Police Command, confirmed the tragic events. Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 6, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has since ordered an immediate manhunt for the gunmen. Reports indicate that the assailants accessed the site after a civilian worker at the gate compromised security protocols, allowing them to infiltrate the premises around 5:20 pm.

Police Response and Coordinated Efforts Underway

Following the incident, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, was dispatched to the scene to oversee investigations and coordinate response efforts. The police are working tirelessly to secure the safe release of the kidnapped individuals and bring the perpetrators to justice.

AIG Expresses Condolences and Vows Justice

AIG Towuru extended his condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen inspector, pledging a relentless pursuit of justice. "The AIG has resolved not to rest on his oars until the victims are released unharmed and those behind this dastardly act are held accountable," stated SP Okpabi.

The police command is intensifying efforts to track down the attackers and prevent further security breaches in the area
