Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep appreciation for the outstanding efforts of the State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, in combating crime and maintaining peace in the state. Describing him as a highly professional officer, Fubara emphasized that without Disu’s leadership, the security situation in Rivers could have escalated into chaos.

This recognition came during a visit from the National President of the Police Officers Wives’ Association (POWA), Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. Governor Fubara took the opportunity to assure residents that his administration is committed to implementing sustainable programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the state.

Commitment to Service and Legacy

Governor Fubara highlighted the determination of his administration to stay focused on delivering impactful services, despite external distractions from political adversaries.

“We understand the provocations and distractions from those who want to frustrate our efforts, but our focus remains on creating a lasting legacy for the people of Rivers State,” Fubara remarked. “It is not the level of distractions that will define us, but the positive impact we leave behind.”

He emphasized that his administration's commitment is to serve with integrity, ensuring that future generations benefit from the peace and development initiatives being undertaken today.

Appeal to Police Officers and Their Families

In his address to POWA, Governor Fubara urged the wives of police officers to encourage their husbands to maintain professionalism in their duties. He stressed that integrity and truth should guide their actions, as these values form the foundation of lasting security and societal progress.

“Being a police officer in these times is challenging, but it is essential that they remain committed to the truth, regardless of the difficulties. In the end, it is only the truth that stands the test of time,” he noted.

The governor also called on the wives to intercede in prayer for the state, urging them to support the government’s vision of peace and stability. He expressed hope that their collective efforts would strengthen Rivers State’s security framework.

POWA’s Role in Supporting Police Families

Governor Fubara commended the work of POWA in supporting widows and families of police officers, acknowledging the association’s significant contributions to easing the burden on those left behind. He particularly praised the construction of a new POWA Shopping Complex in Port Harcourt, describing it as an initiative that underscores POWA’s commitment to the well-being of police families.

“I strongly believe that the Commissioner of Police is doing an excellent job, and his wife’s dedication through POWA is equally commendable,” Fubara said. “The efforts of this association provide a lifeline for families of officers, assuring them that even in the absence of their loved ones, someone is there to support them.”

Praise for Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu

Governor Fubara reserved special praise for CP Olatunji Disu, crediting him for maintaining professionalism in the face of daunting challenges. He reiterated that without Disu’s balanced approach to law enforcement, the security situation in Rivers State could have deteriorated.

“Disu has been an exemplary officer, balancing his duties with integrity. If not for him, this state could have been plunged into chaos. His professionalism is evident, and I will not hesitate to provide any support he or his team may need,” the governor remarked.

He added that the legacy of professionalism and peace fostered by Disu would serve as a model for future law enforcement in Rivers State.

POWA’s Visit and Commissioning of New Facilities

In her remarks, the National President of POWA, Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, acknowledged the governor’s continued support for the association and police officers in Rivers State. She explained that POWA was in Port Harcourt to officially commission the POWA Shopping Complex, which was constructed by the state chapter of the association.

Egbetokun emphasized that the shopping complex would empower women, especially widows of fallen officers, by providing them with economic opportunities. She also highlighted the association’s responsibility to visit state chapters regularly to assess their progress and address any challenges faced by members.

“We are here today to celebrate the achievements of our Rivers State branch, which has built a shopping complex to empower our women. We are grateful for the governor’s immense support, which motivates our officers to carry out their duties with dedication,” Egbetokun said.

Conclusion

Governor Fubara concluded the meeting by reiterating his administration's unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Rivers State. He assured Mrs. Egbetokun and the POWA delegation that his government would continue to support the police force and their families, recognizing the vital role they play in ensuring the safety and security of the state.

“Our ultimate goal is to leave behind a legacy that will be remembered with respect and admiration. This is the greatest gift we can offer our children and the generations to come,” Fubara concluded
