A filling station, Pinnacle Oil, owned by the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, was set ablaze early Friday morning by suspected arsonists. The incident, which took place at the station located on Agbani Road, has left multiple vehicles damaged.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, the fire was started by individuals who arrived in a Toyota Corolla. The arsonists reportedly ignited the blaze before fleeing the scene. At least four cars in the vicinity were affected by the inferno, causing significant damage.

As of the time of this report, the area around Agbani Road leading to the filling station has been cordoned off by fire service personnel and security operatives to ensure safety and control the situation.

Police Confirmation and Response

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the incident. However, in an initial statement, the police suggested that the fire might have been the result of a fuel leakage from one of the vehicles in the queue for fuel rather than deliberate arson.

The statement was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who indicated that no lives were lost in the incident, though several vehicles were destroyed.

"A fire incident occurred at Pinnacle Filling Station, Agbani Road, Enugu, in the morning hours of today, Friday, September 20, 2024. The fire was immediately put out with the support of personnel from both federal and state fire services, who promptly responded to the emergency situation," the statement read.

Investigation Underway

While the initial police findings suggest the fire may have been caused by a fuel leakage, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a full-scale inquiry into the incident to determine its exact cause.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses
