Governor Fubara's Declaration Against Blackmail

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed that his administration will not succumb to any form of blackmail, whether from individuals or groups. His focus remains on delivering quality governance and advancing the overall development of the state. The governor made this clear during the celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day at the Government House Arcade in Port Harcourt, emphasizing his commitment to good governance and the state’s progress.

Speaking through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara stressed that his administration is dedicated to strengthening peace, governance, and economic development in Rivers State.

Recognition of National Leadership and Reforms

Governor Fubara also expressed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as “bold and pragmatic” measures that are essential for addressing the nation’s structural challenges. He noted that these reforms are aimed at fostering long-term growth and prosperity for Nigeria. Fubara acknowledged the complexity of the challenges the country faces but praised the president’s determination to steer the nation towards sustainable development.

Reflections on Nigeria's Independence

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey since independence, Fubara highlighted the significance of October 1, 1960, when Nigeria gained freedom from British colonial rule. He recalled the historical moment when Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, raised the green-white-green flag as a symbol of the nation’s sovereignty.

While acknowledging the sacrifices made by past and present leaders to preserve the nation’s unity and freedom, Fubara expressed concern that Nigeria still grapples with issues such as insecurity and economic difficulties. However, he encouraged Nigerians to remain resilient and optimistic.

“We have reasons to celebrate despite these difficulties. Our resilience, cultural diversity, and resourcefulness are recognized globally. We must continue working towards a Nigeria where no one is oppressed, and all citizens can live in peace and prosperity,” Fubara remarked.

Call for Unity and Collective Action

Governor Fubara urged Nigerians to remain true to the ideals of the country’s founding fathers by promoting unity, peace, and justice. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between citizens and the federal government in addressing key national challenges such as corruption, nepotism, and insecurity.

According to Fubara, only through collective effort can Nigeria achieve its full potential and emerge as a global leader. He called on his fellow governors to strengthen efforts to combat insecurity, banditry, and oil theft, particularly in the Niger Delta region, which is crucial for the success of the economic reforms initiated by President Tinubu.

Commitment to Rivers State's Development

Governor Fubara reassured the people of Rivers State of his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure, education, and healthcare. He highlighted several ongoing projects, including the Port Harcourt Ring Road, the Trans-Kalabari Road, and the rehabilitation of schools and hospitals, as part of his administration’s drive to enhance the state’s development.

In addition, Fubara commended the Armed Forces, Police, and other security agencies for their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the state. He pledged continued support for their efforts, recognizing their critical role in ensuring stability within Rivers State.

In conclusion, Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to leading the state with integrity, resisting any attempts at blackmail, and prioritizing the welfare of the people of Rivers State.
