Focus on Governance, Not Re-election

President Bola Tinubu has clarified that his focus remains firmly on addressing Nigeria's current economic challenges rather than thinking about the 2027 elections. In a statement delivered by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, during the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at Eko Hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, Tinubu emphasized that re-election is not on his agenda at the moment.

Instead, the President underlined that his administration is dedicating its energy toward implementing meaningful reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and improving the well-being of Nigerians.

Economic Reforms at the Forefront

President Tinubu’s remarks come amidst growing concerns about the country's economic trajectory. With inflation and rising living costs affecting many Nigerians, Tinubu reassured the public that his administration is keenly focused on measures to stabilize and grow the economy. He called on citizens to remain patient as the government continues to introduce policies that will yield long-term benefits for the nation.

“We are aware of the challenges faced by the people, but we are working tirelessly to resolve them. Our reforms are targeted at making life better for every Nigerian, and we ask for the support and patience of all,” Tinubu said, through Gbajabiamila.

Commitment to Progress and Stability

During the APC gathering, Tinubu reiterated his administration's commitment to fostering progress across various sectors. He acknowledged that while the road to recovery may be difficult, especially following the economic impact of previous policies, his government is determined to ensure Nigeria emerges stronger. He called for unity and collaboration among stakeholders, including political leaders, to support these efforts.

“We cannot afford distractions at this time. The focus must be on moving the country forward, and we all have a role to play in that journey,” he stated.

Appeal for Patience and Support

President Tinubu’s message also included a strong appeal to Nigerians to remain steadfast and supportive of the government's agenda. He noted that while some of the policies may take time to show results, the administration is working diligently to achieve sustainable growth and development.

“The success of our policies will require patience, but we are confident that with time, Nigerians will see the positive outcomes of our efforts,” Gbajabiamila conveyed on behalf of the President.

Conclusion

In the face of speculation surrounding the 2027 elections, President Tinubu has made it clear that his primary concern is to lead Nigeria through its current economic challenges. His administration remains focused on implementing reforms to drive stability and prosperity, urging all Nigerians to come together in pursuit of a better future
