Unwavering Support for Fubara's Leadership

The Rivers State Youths for Good Governance have declared their unequivocal support for Governor Fubara, reaffirming their commitment to the upcoming Local Government Election scheduled for October 5, 2024. The group has boldly expressed their intention to vote for the candidates of their choice, despite the recent controversies surrounding the election process.

In a strongly worded statement, the Youths for Good Governance emphasized their resolve to ensure that the election holds as planned. “We are coming out to vote peacefully and will defend our votes,” stated Comrade Wilcox Igbanibo, Secretary of the group. The organization has made it clear that the election will go ahead with or without the involvement of the Nigerian Police.

Condemnation of the Rivers State Elders Forum

The Youths for Good Governance did not mince words in their sharp criticism of the Rivers State Elders Forum, referring to the group as a hindrance to democratic progress. The Elders Forum had earlier urged the state government to suspend the elections following a Federal High Court ruling, which they claimed cast doubt on the legality of the process.

The youth group, however, sees this move as an attempt to manipulate the political landscape for personal gain. “The so-called Elders Forum should be ashamed of themselves and should go to hell,” declared the group. They expressed their frustration with the Forum's interference, accusing them of siding with forces that wish to disrupt the democratic process.

According to the Youths for Good Governance, the Elders Forum’s call to suspend the election is not only misguided but also reflects a broader agenda aimed at stifling the voice of the people. “Enough of this nonsense,” the group proclaimed, asserting that the people of Rivers State will not be deterred by the Forum's attempts to thwart the democratic process.

Harsh Criticism of the Inspector General of Police

The group also took aim at the Inspector General of Police (IGP), accusing him of playing a partisan role in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The IGP has been accused of providing selective security arrangements that favor certain political interests while ignoring others.

The Youths for Good Governance have boldly questioned the necessity of police presence during the elections, claiming that they are more than capable of ensuring their own security. “If they think that the youths of Rivers State cannot provide even better security than the police, they are mistaken,” the group stated. They further accused the IGP of failing in his duty to maintain neutrality and fairness in the political process.

Defending Democracy: Voting Must Go On

As the election day draws near, the Youths for Good Governance have reiterated their commitment to defending democracy in Rivers State. They remain steadfast in their belief that the people must be allowed to vote freely, without intimidation or interference from external forces.

The group firmly believes that Governor Fubara’s administration has the mandate of the people and should not be undermined by court rulings or calls from groups like the Elders Forum. “Just like our leader, Governor Fubara, has said, we are coming out tomorrow to vote peacefully and will defend our votes,” Igbanibo declared.

Rejecting the Call to Suspend Elections

In response to the Rivers State Elders Forum’s appeal to halt the elections, the youth group maintained that suspending the election would only lead to chaos and confusion. They emphasized that preparations for the election are already well underway and that any disruption at this stage would do more harm than good.

The group dismissed the Elders Forum's concerns, asserting that the election must proceed as scheduled. They see the Forum's actions as an unwarranted interference in a process that belongs to the people. “The Elders Forum’s call to suspend the election is not in the interest of the people,” the group argued.

Conclusion

The Youths for Good Governance have made their position clear: the Local Government Election must hold, and they will not allow any group or individual to undermine their democratic rights. They have voiced strong criticism of both the Rivers State Elders Forum and the Inspector General of Police for what they perceive as attempts to manipulate the political process in Rivers State. As the election date approaches, the group remains resolute in their determination to defend their votes and secure a brighter future for Rivers State.
