I heartily welcome members of the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State for their “2024 All-Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC).”
At the opening ceremony this afternoon, I extended to them the warm reception of our people and government of Bayelsa State, the Glory of All Lands, as they convene to deliberate on vital issues that shape our nation’s narrative and uphold the tenets of the noble journalism profession.
In company of the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mr. Mohammed Idris Malagi and leaders of the NGE, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Mr. Sam Amuka and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, I challenged the editors to continue to operate with integrity and truth, being the cornerstone of their profession.
I remain an advocate of a free but responsible press with a commitment to support societal growth.
In line with the theme of the conference, “Economic Growth and Development Strategies in Resource-Rich Country”, I shared with the editors and senior media managers the tremendous progress achieved so far by our administration on several legacy projects including the three Senatorial roads that are linking our communities to the Atlantic Ocean to unlock the vast potential of the Blue Economy, designed to transform the lives of our people.
I equally expect the media to continually highlight our peculiar challenges of environmental pollution arising from oil and gas activities and flooding for both national and global attention.
We are glad to host the crème de la crème in the Nigerian media community here in our peaceful land of Yenagoa.
I wish all the participants a fruitful and inspiring meeting, and “may your deliberations contribute significantly to the advancement of our democracy.”
Do! Nua! Alua!
