The Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has strongly criticized an alleged planned protest by certain groups within the region against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). MOSIEND called on these groups to abandon their plans for protest and engage in constructive dialogue instead.

Call for Dialogue Over Protest

MOSIEND has specifically urged the faction led by Mr. Theophilus Elaye within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), the Ex-Agitators Forum, and the Coalition of Niger Delta Civil Society Organizations (CNDCSO) to reconsider their approach. The organization advocates for a shift away from demonstrations and towards dialogue, emphasizing that collaborative discussion is the most effective way to address grievances.

MOSIEND’s Stance on the Reasons for the Protest

In a statement released on Tuesday, MOSIEND, a leading mass mobilization group in the Niger Delta, expressed disappointment over the grounds provided by these groups for the alleged protest, labeling them "unfortunate and unwarranted." MOSIEND believes that such actions could be divisive and ultimately counterproductive.

Background on the Alleged Protest Notice

MOSIEND highlighted that the Niger Delta groups involved had issued a protest notice addressed to President Bola Tinubu, raising concerns over perceived administrative lapses and legal infractions within the NDDC. This notice, which has circulated in national newspapers and social media, challenges the recent appointment of Chiedu Ebie as the NDDC chairman.

The protest notice reportedly carries the signatures of Comrade Theophilus Elaye, Comrade Jesse Birinumughan of the Niger Delta Ex-Agitators’ Forum, Comrade Jackson Agbor, chairman of the Ijaw Youth Leaders of Thoughts (IYLT), as well as other unnamed ex-militant leaders
