Jonathan Urges for Peace and Support
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as an emerging political “General” in the state. Despite facing significant political challenges since assuming office, Jonathan expressed confidence that these trials would strengthen Fubara's leadership and shape him into a formidable figure in politics.
Speaking during a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Jonathan called on the people of Rivers to continue supporting Governor Fubara. He emphasized the critical need for peace to ensure the state's growth and development.
“Political antagonism is a common hurdle for leaders,” Jonathan remarked, “but the challenges Governor Fubara is currently navigating will prepare him for greater political achievements.”
Encouragement Amid Challenges
Dr. Jonathan urged Governor Fubara not to be discouraged by political opposition. Instead, he assured the governor that these obstacles were stepping stones to becoming a stronger leader.
“I know you (Governor Fubara) are facing challenges,” Jonathan said. “This is your first time holding a top political office, and you will encounter a lot. But nobody becomes a General without fighting wars. With your commitment and the support of the people of Rivers, God will see you through.”
The former President also highlighted the strategic importance of Rivers State to the nation, warning that instability in the region could have far-reaching consequences.
“Rivers State is the center of the Niger Delta. Any destabilization here creates a crisis in the Niger Delta, which negatively impacts our economy. We need a peaceful state, and I urge the Governor to remain calm and focused on his responsibilities,” Jonathan added.
Governor Fubara Receives Chieftaincy Title
In response to the honor, Governor Fubara was bestowed the chieftaincy title Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers. He expressed profound gratitude for the recognition and the unwavering support from the Etche and Ikwerre communities.
During the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition held in Nihi Community, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Rivers residents through developmental projects.
“We recently awarded road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities. These projects will be completed soon, and we plan to commission them in the coming months,” Fubara stated.
Commitment to Progress and Stability
Governor Fubara pledged to maintain law and order across the state, assuring residents of his administration’s dedication to achieving its goals.
“We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land. Thank you for your patience and support,” he said.
Fubara also expressed deep appreciation for the former President’s guidance during his administration's challenges.
“He has stood by me through this difficult period,” the Governor noted.
Call for Leadership and Community Safety
Chairman of the occasion, Senator John Azuta Mbata, congratulated Eze Nwala for his decade-long service as monarch. He urged traditional rulers in Rivers State to maintain law and order, emphasizing their role in ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
The event underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing Rivers State's political and developmental challenges, with leaders like Governor Fubara being celebrated for their resilience and commitment to progress
