Gunmen suspected to be bandits raided an off-campus student residence on the outskirts of the Low-Cost area of Kaura Namoda town in Zamfara State on Tuesday night, abducting six students from the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda. According to Ibrahim Ahmad, a student at the institution, seven students were initially caught in the raid, but one managed to escape, leaving three male and three female students in captivity. The local government chairman, Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the attack, stating that security agencies have launched active rescue operations to ensure the victims' safe return.

Providing details on how the breach occurred, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, stated on Wednesday that the bandits managed to enter the property after a student left the door open. According to DSP Abubakar, "One of the students went outside during the night to urinate and left the door open. The bandits, who were passing through the area, entered the house and abducted the students." He emphasized that the main campus remains secure due to adequate security deployments that prevent bandit penetration, and noted that the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) is collaborating with military troops from Operation Fansan Yamma on a coordinated rescue mission.

In the wake of the abduction, a local group known as the Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda issued a statement expressing grave concern over the worsening security situation in the area, pointing to a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Bello Dansadiya, and his gang. The group questioned the effectiveness of ongoing security operations, citing previous high-profile abductions in the vicinity. These include two senior lecturers who were held for over two months despite ransom payments, as well as three residents and a district head seized from a residence near a military base, who are allegedly still being held captive in a bandit camp around Dajin Yamma.
