The national leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has publicly dissociated itself from the directives issued by its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, concerning the ongoing dispute in the Kano Emirate. Kwankwaso's communication, which instructed federal lawmakers from the party to criticize President Bola Tinubu and the federal government over the Kano Emirate crisis, has been repudiated by the party's leadership.

According to the NNPP, Kwankwaso had sent a letter to all federal lawmakers elected under the NNPP banner. The letter, signed by Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, allegedly directed the lawmakers to launch criticisms against President Tinubu and the federal government's handling of the Kano Emirate situation.

However, in a subsequent letter addressed to the Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, Senator Godswill Akpabio, dated July 2, 2024, the NNPP leadership distanced itself from Kwankwaso's actions. The letter clarified that Kwankwaso's directives did not represent the party's official stance and should be disregarded.

The letter to the Senate President was titled, "Re: Need for NNPP Federal Lawmakers to make urgent and concerted efforts to end immediately the siege on Kano by agents of the federal government." It was jointly signed by NNPP National Chairman Agbo Gilbert Major and National Secretary Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday.

The NNPP leadership's letter reads: "Our attention has been drawn to a letter dated June 24, 2024, with the above-quoted heading and signed by one Dr. Ajuji Ahmed addressed to members of the National Assembly. We wish to state clearly and for the records that the letter written by the said Dr. Ajuji Ahmed was without the mandate and authorization of the legally recognized leadership of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP)."

Regarding the disputes concerning the Kano Emirate, the NNPP leadership emphasized that the party's primary focus remains on the development and well-being of Nigerians. The leadership reiterated that Kwankwaso's letter did not reflect the party's principles or policies.

The Kano Emirate crisis has been a contentious issue, involving various political and traditional stakeholders. Kwankwaso's unilateral action in directing lawmakers to take a confrontational stance against the federal government has added another layer of complexity to the situation.

The NNPP leadership's swift response to distance itself from Kwankwaso's directives underscores the internal divisions within the party and highlights the challenges of maintaining party cohesion amid a highly sensitive political issue. The party's emphasis on development and well-being indicates a desire to focus on constructive engagement rather than confrontation.

The Kano Emirate tussle involves disputes over the control and administration of the traditional emirate, with significant political and cultural implications. The involvement of federal lawmakers and directives to criticize the federal government further complicates the matter, potentially affecting national political dynamics.

By disowning Kwankwaso's directives, the NNPP leadership aims to mitigate potential fallout and realign the party's actions with its stated principles. This move also reflects a strategic decision to avoid unnecessary conflict with the federal government and maintain a focus on broader developmental goals.

In summary, the NNPP has formally disowned the directives issued by its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, regarding the Kano Emirate crisis. The party's leadership clarified that Kwankwaso's actions were unauthorized and did not represent the party's official stance. Emphasizing their commitment to development and the well-being of Nigerians, the NNPP leadership has asked the National Assembly to disregard Kwankwaso's directives, underscoring the importance of party unity and constructive engagement in addressing political issues
