National Youth Games: Samkay Athletics Club receives contingent, splashes them cash gifts

The founder and Chairman of Samkay Athletics Club, Dr. Kola Oredipe, has commended the 26 track and field athletes who represented Bayelsa State at the recently concluded National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State for their performance.
Dr. Oredipe gave commendation when he played host to the athletes and their parents at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.

He stated that it was a thing of joy that athletes under his club represented Bayelsa at the games and won laurels for the State.
While applauding them for improving on last year's performance by winning 2 silver medals in the long jump and 4x100 meters relay boys as well as bronze in 200 meters, Dr. Oredipe, who also doubles as Vice-Chairman of the State Athletics Association, urged their parents to support them to achieve their dreams.
He said SAMKAY, as a club, will do everything within its powers to ensure that they get to stardom.

Dr. Oredipe, who particularly thanked the team of athletics coaches, Pius Bazighe, Terimoh Maurice, and Richard Torugbene, for their sacrifices and training of the young talents, appreciated Governor Douye Diri and Commissioner for Sports, Dr. Daniel Igali, for creating a good platform for sports development in the State.
Also, an elated Secretary of the State Athletics Association, Mr. Tariye Bidei, said this was the first time the association was witnessing any form of reward to participants in the Youth Games.

He appreciated Dr. Oredipe for his drive in the development of Athletics in the state and urged other spirited individuals to emulate him. 
He challenged the athletes to pick up the challenge in their chosen careers to justify the confidence reposed in them.

Responding to the father of the silver medalist in the Long jump, Mikieniso, Mr. Messiah Nathan, appreciated the founder and the entire team of the Samkay Athletics Club for their efforts aimed at developing the young athletes.

He pledged on behalf of other parents of their continued support to the sporting aspirations of their children.

The high point of the event was the presentation of N10,000 naira each to all athletes and 5,000 naira extra to each medal winner. 

Coaches, officials, and the senior athletes who joined them to Asaba were also rewarded for their moral support.
