Commitment to October 5th Election

Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo, has affirmed that the local government elections scheduled for October 5th are set to proceed as planned. Oko-Jumbo emphasized that no obstacle will derail the election date, demonstrating the commitment of the Rivers State government to uphold democratic processes.

Speaking at the commissioning of rural electrification projects in several Boue communities within Khana Local Government Area, the Speaker praised the leadership of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara for ensuring that the election timetable remains on course. According to Oko-Jumbo, the administration is fully focused on delivering this important civic exercise.

"On October 5th, nothing will stop the local government elections from taking place," Oko-Jumbo declared confidently. "We have moved beyond the days when calls for local government elections were ignored. Now, with the backing of His Excellency, the governor of Rivers State, we are ensuring that the people of Rivers will have their elections as promised."

Governor Fubara’s Commitment

Oko-Jumbo further commended Governor Fubara's dedication to fulfilling his promises, particularly in relation to democratic governance. He called on the public to continue supporting the governor’s administration, as well as the caretaker chairpersons overseeing local government areas, in their efforts to bring progress and development to the state.

"The governor has made it clear: we will conduct the local government elections. I urge you all to stand with His Excellency and support the caretaker chairman and his team, as they work to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people," Oko-Jumbo stressed.

The Speaker also expressed surprise that some of the same individuals who once clamored for elections are now attempting to obstruct the process. He advised against such actions, urging those involved to embrace the progress being made in the state.

Rural Electrification for Boue Communities

In addition to reaffirming the state’s election schedule, the Speaker praised the ongoing efforts to provide critical infrastructure to rural communities. The electrification of Gbam Boue, Nyokwiri Boue, and Kerike Boue was lauded as a step forward in improving the quality of life for residents.

The rural electrification projects were spearheaded by the Khana Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Marvin Yobana. Oko-Jumbo acknowledged the significance of these initiatives, stating that they exemplify the benefits of local governance and the dedication of local leaders to fostering development.

"With these rural electrification projects, we are seeing the tangible results of good leadership and governance. These communities now have access to electricity, which will undoubtedly enhance their well-being and further drive economic and social growth," Oko-Jumbo noted.

Conclusion

As the date for Rivers State’s local government elections draws closer, the Speaker’s message was clear: there is no turning back. The administration is determined to conduct the elections on October 5th as scheduled, and efforts to develop rural areas through electrification projects highlight the ongoing commitment to improving the lives of citizens across the state
