In a tragic incident on Saturday night, terrorists launched an assault on Janboka, the hometown of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The attack, which occurred in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, resulted in the death of two individuals and the abduction of approximately 40 residents, many of whom are women and children.

Attack on Janboka Community

According to local sources, the terrorists invaded the community late in the evening, firing indiscriminately and causing panic among the residents. Ibrahim Haru, a resident of Janboka, recounted how the attackers stormed the village, targeting civilians. Despite the presence of local security guards, the assailants were able to overpower the community, leading to devastating consequences.

"A headcount conducted on Sunday morning revealed that around 40 people were missing after the attack," said Haru. Most of the abducted individuals are believed to be women and children, raising concerns about their safety in the hands of the terrorists.

Casualties and Rising Insecurity

Two residents were confirmed killed in the attack. They were identified as Malam Isah and a teenage boy, both of whom lost their lives while trying to flee the violence. The incident has further heightened fears in the region, as it highlights the growing insecurity in the Maradun Local Government Area.

This latest assault came just one week after 10 abductees were released by terrorists in the same area following the payment of a N10 million ransom. The recurring attacks have left residents in constant fear, with many questioning the effectiveness of local security measures.

Increasing Terrorist Activity in Maradun

Maradun, which is the hometown of the current Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has been a hotbed of terrorist activities in recent months. Despite the prominence of the area and its strategic importance, terrorist attacks have continued unabated, leaving many residents frustrated with the lack of decisive action from authorities.

The continuous raids on Maradun and its neighboring communities reflect a broader security crisis in Zamfara State, where terrorist groups have become increasingly bold in their operations. The kidnapping of large numbers of civilians, particularly women and children, has become a recurring tactic employed by these groups to extort money through ransom demands.

Authorities Yet to Respond

As of the time of this report, the police spokesperson for Zamfara State, Yazeed Abubakar, had not provided an official statement or confirmation of the attack. This delay in communication has only fueled concerns about the responsiveness of law enforcement agencies in addressing the ongoing security challenges in the region.

Residents continue to call for increased security presence and more proactive measures from both state and federal authorities to curb the rising wave of terrorism in Zamfara. For many, the attack on Janboka serves as a grim reminder of the growing threat posed by armed groups and the urgent need for a coordinated response to restore peace in the region
