PDP Chieftain Calls for Cabinet Reshuffle: Urges Tinubu to Sack Certain Ministers

Dare Glintstone Akinniyi, the spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Youth Group, has made a bold recommendation regarding President Bola Tinubu's cabinet reshuffle. He has urged President Tinubu to relieve Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of his duties.

Akinniyi's call comes amidst speculation that the President is preparing for a cabinet overhaul aimed at improving the performance of his administration.

Akinniyi Recommends the Removal of Nyesom Wike

In his statement, Akinniyi stressed the need for Wike’s dismissal, citing political distractions and public perception issues surrounding the Minister of the FCT. He argued that Wike's presence in the cabinet has shifted focus away from governance towards personal political ambitions, specifically speculating that Wike is already positioning himself for the 2027 elections.

“Firstly, I recommend sacking the Minister of the FCT. He has brought excessive noise and political baggage to this government; keeping someone like Barrister Nyesom Wike ensures perpetual issues with public perception. Instead of focusing on his duties, he’s already skimming for 2027,” Akinniyi stated.

Praise for Interior, Works, and Aviation Ministers

While Akinniyi called for Wike’s removal, he was clear in his support for three other ministers: Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior), Dave Umahi (Works), and Festus Keyamo (Aviation). According to Akinniyi, these ministers have been diligent in their duties and should be retained.

“The Ministers of Interior, Works, and Aviation are doing their best; everyone else, apart from this trio, should go,” he recommended.

Cabinet Reshuffle Speculation

The proposed cabinet reshuffle has generated significant speculation, with reports indicating that up to 11 ministers out of over 40 may be replaced. Although no official timeline has been given, Tinubu’s key aide, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that intense lobbying is underway as ministers fear losing their positions.

The Guardian newspaper reported on September 26 that several ministers had been marked for replacement as part of the President’s strategy to address performance issues within his administration.

PDP Chieftain’s Broader Critique of Tinubu's Government

Akinniyi, however, did not limit his criticism to individual ministers. He expressed deep dissatisfaction with the overall performance of the Tinubu administration, suggesting that even significant changes in the cabinet may not be enough to correct the government's course.

“Nigeria is facing significant challenges, and I believe the removal of any minister won’t have a significant impact; instead, the Tinubu-led APC government is proving to be problematic rather than beneficial,” Akinniyi asserted.

He further stated, “What can you make of the entire body when the head is rotten? Nothing!”

A Call for Competent Leadership Outside APC

Looking ahead, Akinniyi suggested that President Tinubu could benefit from seeking competent leaders beyond his party. He urged the President to consider appointing individuals from outside the All Progressives Congress (APC) who could better execute the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“There are competent individuals inside and outside the APC who can be consulted and appointed. Prior to Tinubu’s midterm, there’s still time to bring in sensible ministers to keep the ship from sinking,” he advised.

Rumors of Femi Gbajabiamila’s Possible Dismissal

In the midst of the reshuffle speculation, media reports have emerged suggesting that Femi Gbajabiamila, the current Chief of Staff and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, may also face dismissal. Citing unnamed sources, the reports suggest that Gbajabiamila’s alleged poor performance has made him a potential target for replacement.

As the reshuffle looms, all eyes are on President Tinubu to see which ministers will remain and who will be replaced in this critical phase of his administration.
