The political dynamics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State have taken a new turn, with accusations and counter-accusations shaping the future of the party. In this context, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a prominent political figure, has provided insights into the unfolding battle for control of the PDP in the state. According to him, Governor Siminalayi Fubara holds the reins of the legitimate PDP, while the faction led by former Governor Nyesom Wike is voided by legal rulings.

Political Battle for the PDP: Fubara's Strategic Position

Ugochinyere has described the ongoing struggle within the Rivers State PDP as a political battle that has only just begun. He suggested that Governor Fubara’s opponents are feeling the heat and are resorting to desperate legal maneuvers to gain control. Dismissing any speculation about Fubara’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ugochinyere emphasized that such rumors are mere wishful thinking driven by overconfidence.

“At every juncture, Fubara has outsmarted his rivals,” Ugochinyere remarked, hinting that those opposing the governor should expect an impending political “uppercut” in the battles ahead.

PDP Leadership Crisis: Fubara's Faction is Legitimate

Addressing concerns about the state of the PDP in Rivers, Ugochinyere affirmed that Governor Fubara is firmly in control of the party’s legitimate structure. He dismissed the current PDP executive led by Wike as an illegitimate faction, pointing to a court ruling that invalidated its leadership. According to Ugochinyere, the court had declared Wike’s executive committee illegal, branding it a "committee of friends" that has no legal standing.

“The valid Rivers PDP is with Fubara,” Ugochinyere stated emphatically. He also clarified that the decision of some PDP members to contest local government elections under another party banner should not be interpreted as a defection by Governor Fubara or his faction.

Court Ruling Confirms Fubara’s Control

Citing a court ruling, Ugochinyere maintained that the current PDP executive, which is associated with Wike, was declared void even before it was inaugurated. He stressed that the leadership of this faction is unknown to the law, further reinforcing the position that Governor Fubara controls the legitimate PDP in Rivers State.

“As of today, the valid Rivers PDP is with Fubara,” Ugochinyere reiterated, calling on political opponents to prepare for the difficult political confrontations that lie ahead.

Conclusion: The Road Ahead for Rivers PDP

The situation in Rivers State highlights the ongoing power tussle within the PDP, with both sides vying for control of the party. Ugochinyere's remarks indicate that Governor Fubara is confident in his legal and political position, while Wike’s faction faces challenges stemming from court decisions. As the political battle intensifies, the future of the PDP in Rivers will depend on how these legal and political confrontations unfold
