The People’s Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF), under the leadership of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the vision of the party’s founding fathers and improving upon it for the benefit of Nigeria and its citizens. This pledge was made in a statement signed by the Director General of the PDP-GF, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, on behalf of the forum in Abuja.

Dismissal of Speculations on 2027 Presidential Ambitions

Dr. Agbo refuted claims made by Samuel Nwanosike, a member of the PDP in Rivers State, who alleged during a television broadcast that Governor Bala Mohammed was attempting to lure Rivers State Governor Similaye Fubara into contesting the 2027 presidential election as his vice-presidential candidate. According to Agbo, these allegations are unfounded and misleading. He stressed that Governor Mohammed's leadership of the forum aims to unite, not divide, the party.

“It is an oath Governor Mohammed swore to, and he will always uphold it – to enhance the vision of the party’s founding fathers and build on what we have inherited,” Agbo stated.

Commitment to Party Unity and Service

The PDP-GF emphasized that its focus remains on the unity of its members and delivering good governance. Agbo noted that Governor Mohammed views politics as a call to service, not a profession. He highlighted the governor's belief in accountability and his understanding that political positions are temporary.

“In this light, Governor Mohammed personally sees politics as a call to service, not a profession, and he remains mindful of the fact that one day we will leave these positions, accountable to our Creator and the state,” Agbo remarked.

Rebuttal of Samuel Nwanosike's Allegations

Addressing the allegations made by Samuel Nwanosike, Agbo clarified that the claims of Governor Mohammed plotting to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, with Governor Similaye Fubara as his running mate, are baseless. He dismissed these comments as the product of a personal vendetta and a desperate attempt to remain relevant in local politics.

“The forum would ordinarily not dignify such diatribes with a response, but we feel compelled to correct the erroneous impressions being planted in the minds of unsuspecting individuals,” Agbo added.

Upholding Democratic Values and Integrity

Agbo reiterated that the PDP-GF remains focused on its core values of unity, integrity, and delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. He criticized the actions of political actors like Nwanosike, who he described as engaging in petty political maneuvering to serve their own interests rather than those of the party or the public.

“Inclusivity and reconciliation have always been the cornerstones of the PDP, and we intend to maintain those values. Nigerian politics is highly competitive, but it should be driven by a commitment to serve the people, not personal ambition,” Agbo stated.

Defending the Party’s Legacy

The PDP Governors’ Forum made it clear that it will continue to defend the party’s legacy and work towards strengthening the democratic process in Nigeria. Governor Bala Mohammed, Agbo emphasized, is committed to fostering unity within the party and ensuring that the PDP remains a strong opposition force that advocates for social justice and economic development.

“Governor Bala Mohammed has lived by the principle of ‘live and let live,’ and he will always prioritize reason and reconciliation over divisive tactics. He will not engage in any actions that would undermine the party or the governors' ability to serve their states effectively,” Agbo concluded.

Conclusion: A Call for Unity and Service

In its final remarks, the PDP-GF called on all members of the party to remain committed to the principles of reconciliation, discipline, and truth. The forum reminded members that the PDP is not a one-man enterprise and that the common good of the people must remain the focus of the party's leadership. Governor Bala Mohammed, it affirmed, will continue to lead with integrity, ensuring that the party stays true to its founding ideals and continues to work for the betterment of all Nigerians.

“We must allow others to grow in public service without burning down the party to achieve personal gains,” Agbo stressed, reaffirming the forum's dedication to the principles that have guided the PDP since its inception
