Femi Falana, a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has provided an important update regarding the death of a police inspector who was tragically killed by a group of soldiers. In a recent video shared by Sahara Reporters TV, Falana detailed the circumstances surrounding the incident and the legal actions being pursued to ensure justice is served.

Incident Involving Police Officer's Death

The incident occurred last year when the police officer, who was on duty directing traffic along Ojo Road, Lagos, was allegedly assaulted and killed by 11 soldiers. According to Falana, the soldiers took offense when they were asked to stop for a trailer during the officer’s management of traffic. Rather than complying, they arrested the officer, took him to the barracks, and brutally beat him to death.

Legal Action and Support for the Family

Falana explained that he became involved in the case after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ojo brought the matter to his attention on behalf of the deceased officer’s family. In response to their plight, Falana took up the case and initiated legal actions aimed at securing justice for the family of the slain officer. His efforts, in collaboration with the Lagos State government, resulted in the approval of 10 million naira as compensation for the officer’s family. In addition to this, the police provided part of the late officer's entitlements to his family.

Pursuit of Justice and Identification of Soldiers

Falana also revealed that the identities of the 11 soldiers involved in the incident have been confirmed, and legal proceedings are underway against them. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the tragic death of the police officer are held accountable. "We have identified the 11 soldiers who killed the policeman, and we have sued them and the army," Falana said, underscoring his determination to see the case through.

Justice for the Deceased Officer

The case highlights the growing concerns about the conduct of security personnel in Nigeria and the need for justice in cases involving abuse of power. Falana’s efforts, alongside those of the deceased officer’s family and law enforcement, aim to send a strong message about the consequences of such violent actions. As the legal process continues, there is hope that justice will be served for the family of the fallen police inspector.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability within the military and law enforcement agencies, as well as the need for continued advocacy to protect the rights of citizens and public servants alike
