Ambassador Igali Decries Misuse of Military Personnel for Private Assignments, Calls for Apology to Wike and Presidential Intervention
By Wisdom Tide /November 12th, 2025
The National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, has expressed strong disapproval over the growing trend of military officers being deployed for non-statutory and illegal duties in Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport on his way to Lagos, Ambassador Igali reacted to the unfortunate altercation between the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, CON, and a junior naval officer, Lt. A.M. Yerima, who was reportedly acting on the instructions of a retired Service Chief over a property under investigation by the FCT Administration.
He described the incident as “an affront to civil authority and a direct embarrassment to the Presidency,” noting that the FCT Minister represents the President in all matters concerning the Federal Capital Territory.
“Chief Wike, undoubtedly one of the best-performing Ministers in this administration, deserves to be treated with utmost respect and decorum,” Igali stated.
The PANDEF Chairman further emphasized that the Nigerian Navy should tender an unreserved apology to the FCT Minister, both on behalf of the retired officer who gave the illegal order and the young naval officer who found himself wrongly deployed.
Ambassador Igali called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the relevant authorities to investigate the matter, ensure accountability, and reaffirm the principle of civilian oversight of the military, which remains the foundation of any stable democracy
