Igali Urges President Tinubu to Curb Illegal Military Assignments, Demands Navy’s Apology to Wike
Wisdom Tide/November 12th, 2025
Elder statesman and Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take firm action against the misuse of military personnel for private and unlawful purposes

In a media chat at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Ambassador Igali reacted to the recent altercation between the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, and Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, a naval officer allegedly deployed under questionable orders from a retired Service Chief.

He condemned the episode as “a disgraceful breach of civil-military order” and a violation of democratic norms.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces exist to defend the nation’s territorial integrity, not to protect private property or act as personal guards,” Igali stated. “This misuse erodes professionalism and undermines the trust Nigerians have in our uniformed institutions.”

The PANDEF Chairman maintained that the Nigerian Navy owes Chief Wike a public apology, noting that disrespect to the FCT Minister is disrespect to the President, under whose authority the Minister acts.

Ambassador Igali urged the Commander-in-Chief to ensure that the matter is properly investigated and that corrective measures are put in place to prevent the further erosion of the military’s reputation
