Disrespect to Wike Is Disrespect to the Presidency — Igali Condemns Misuse of Military Officers for Private Interests
Wisdom Tide/November 12, 2025
Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Ambassador Godknows Boladei Igali, has condemned in strong terms the recent confrontation between a junior naval officer and the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike, describing it as an “unfortunate and avoidable affront to constituted authority.”

Speaking with journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Ambassador Igali noted that the naval officer, Lt. A.M. Yerima, allegedly acted on the instructions of a retired Service Chief, in what amounts to the misuse of military assets for private gain.

“The Honourable Minister represents the President in all matters concerning the FCT. Any act of public insubordination towards him is tantamount to disrespect to the Office of the President himself,” Igali asserted.

He insisted that the Nigerian Navy must issue an official apology to the Minister, describing the conduct as “grossly improper and inconsistent with military ethics.”

Ambassador Igali called on President Tinubu to ensure that the incident is thoroughly investigated and to issue directives preventing the involvement of the military in private or illegal activities. He emphasized that protecting civilian authority is the cornerstone of democratic governance and a prerequisite for national stability.
