ASUU NDU Enters Day 3 of Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University (NDU) branch, has officially entered Day 3 of its ongoing indefinite strike action.
Rallying under the slogans "No Justice, No Classes!" and "United We Stand, Divided We Beg!", the union has halted academic activities across the institution, insisting that members will not return to the classrooms until their key welfare and policy demands are fully addressed.
Core Demands of the Union
The ASUU NDU branch has outlined three major demands directing this industrial action:
- Total Implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU Agreement The union is insisting on the immediate and comprehensive execution of all terms finalized in the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and ASUU.
- Full Payment of CATA Arrears Academic staff members are calling for the prompt, total settlement of all outstanding CATA (Consequential Adjustment Allowance) arrears owed to them.
- Full Payment of 19 Months Unpaid Wage Award Arrears The strike emphasizes the clearance of 19 months of unpaid arrears stemming from the 25/35% wage award adjustments previously approved for university workers.
Current Outlook
As the strike action progresses, academic operations at Niger Delta University remain suspended. Union leaders reaffirm that the struggle continues until the government and university authorities fulfill these obligations, leaving the timeline for resuming academic activities contingent on successful negotiations.
