The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University (NDU) branch in Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, has officially reached the 6th day of its ongoing indefinite strike action. Union members have reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the industrial action, declaring that their resolve remains firm and they will not relent until their demands are fully met under the banner of "Strike for Justice, For the Future!"
Core Demands of the Union
The strike centers around three major financial and welfare demands:
- Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance: Immediate payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance.
- Allowance Arrears (From January 2026): Full payment of the arrears owed for the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance accumulated since January 2026.
- Wage Award Arrears: Full payment covering the 19 months of outstanding arrears for the 25%–35% Wage Award.
Call for Support and Higher Education Reform
Emphasizing the core values of "Fairness, Respect, Dignity," and "Fair Pay," the union appeals to the public, students, and stakeholders to support the strike. The union asserts that their struggle is dedicated to improving the core pillars of tertiary education—teaching, research, and community service—and building a better, properly funded university system for the future.
